Energy customers 'want to be more efficient'

Energy customers in the UK want to be more efficient in their gas and electricity usage in order to save money, according to research.

The study by the Energy Retail Association (ERA) found that 96 per cent want to become greener for that reason, while 70 per cent think that smart meters will help them reduce their consumption.

It was also revealed that three-quarters of people are interested in using microgeneration to create their own energy supplies.

Duncan Sedgwick, chief executive of the ERA, said: "Consumers are feeling the pinch in many areas at present and so saving energy is more important than ever.

"It is clear that the public want to save energy and be more energy efficient but they don't yet have the tools to do this."

Launched in 2003, the ERA works closely with the government and other organisations in the UK to discuss and solve issues affecting gas and electricity customers.

The body recently appointed Peter Jenkins as its new head of communications and media relations.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18605409-ADNFCR
